Customer Success Story - Three C Ranch

Three C Ranch, located in Oakhurst, Texas, was started by Robert Guenther and his late partner, Dr. Karl Wallace, over 25 years ago. Texas ranching ran in both of their families, so raising cattle was a natural fit.

A few Longhorns added to their commercial cattle herd quickly became a 100% Texas Longhorn herd.

“We enjoyed the cattle and people and wanted to be as involved in the industry as we could be,” Guenther said.

Lots of record keeping is involved for the 80 head ranch – their first record keeping system was paper. “We just kept files in folders”. Next, Guenther tried making a financial bookkeeping program work, but it wasn’t as easy and complete as he needed.

The reporting and historical record aspects of the LonghornMax software immediately interested Guenther. By seeing a history of cattle by individual or group, offspring, breeding and more helps him make finding records much easier. “It’s exciting to look back through records in LonghornMax - I realized a bull I’m using has over 70 calves, and a certain cow has 10 calves – a quick way to see which cattle are really performing and which are not!”

Working with pedigree records is another of Guenther’s favorite features of LonghornMax. “I enjoy watching pedigrees, and appreciate the 5-generation pedigree reports to see a detailed view of an animal’s lineage.” The Simulated Pedigree in LonghornMax is “an incredible way to see the pedigree result of a potential mating.”

One way Guenther markets his cattle is through The Longhorn Source listing service.

“Not only does The Longhorn Source advertise animals, it also promotes your herd since the ranch contact information and website link are included in each listing,” Guenther added.

“The Longhorn Source shows that they are thinking of the breeders by simply making the connection between buyers and sellers, and letting the 2 parties complete the transaction themselves, “ he commented.

Guenther continued “The Longhorn Source is the vehicle to make the connection between buyers and sellers”. He said he found adding of animals “so easy” and encouraged other breeders to use the site to help market their cattle. The listings appearing immediately was another benefit Guenther found about the service.

The “Number of Views” on each listing helps increase interest in the animals, according to Guenther. “If an animal has a high number of views, I’ll take a closer look at the animal’s details to see if it’s one that I am interested in.”

The LonghornMax software and The Longhorn Source have kept his interest in good record keeping and marketing options.

“I like as much information as possible in front of me to make efficient and sound decisions.”
