Customer Success Story - Stone Broke Ranch
Stone Broke Ranch in Cameron, Texas, began in 1997 with one pet Longhorn cow in Larry and Barbara Shepherd’s backyard. Their pet” has now turned into a herd of about 80 head.
It was supposed to be just for fun,” Barbara Shepherd said, but we had to buy 200 acres to put them on.”
Two years ago, they started moving cattle to the ranch, and Shepherd said she and her husband have now literally found a resting place,” among their Longhorn cattle.
Stone Broke Ranch recently certified their herd of Texas Longhorns, and Shepherd said they are now interested in focusing on marketing their animals. With this year’s 70% heifer calf crop, they will soon have plenty to market.
Stone Broke has used LonghornMax for record keeping for four years, and Shepherd says she writes down everything.”
I would rather do other things, like play with the grandkids, than spend time on the computer,” she said, I use the program every day, and it’s easy to keep records.”
Shepherd found LonghornMax at the Horn Showcase in Fort Worth, and now recommends it to anyone in the Longhorn business.
[Before LonghornMax] my idea of keeping records was a lot folders in a file cabinet,” she said, If I ever filed something wrong, I had to go through every folder to find it.”
Now, Shepherd tells her husband that he can find everything about the cattle in LonghornMax.
She said she particularly enjoys the herd update feature, which enables her to move a group of cattle at one time, and now that they have a certified herd, she can update that all at once.
She said she uses the calf report most often, sorted by birth date, to keep track of weaning times and when each calf needs vaccinations.
When she’s not dealing with her Texas Longhorns, Barbara also runs an online store, www.withatexastwist.com, where she sells items suited for the western lifestyle.
