Customer Success Story - Rocking B Ranch
Just settling in to their new location in Maypearl, TX, Rocking B Ranch boasts 120 Texas Longhorn “mama cows.” With 19 years of experience in breeding and raising Longhorn cattle, Rick Baldwin has also recently ventured into raising deer in a wildlife management program.
Baldwin first purchased LonghornMax to assist in record keeping in 2001, after meeting with Cattlesoft at one of Russell Hooks’ Longhorn Round-Up sales. He had previously kept his records in a series of Excel spreadsheets, or by hand.
When asked about his favorite feature in the software, Baldwin simply responded, “Pretty much everything about it.”
He said he regularly prints out his cattle inventory list and keeps it with him.
“When I move cows, it helps me know where they are and who they are,” he said.
He said he recommends that every Longhorn breeder should use the software.
“If I can do it, anybody can do it,” he said, “Just use it and remember to backup [your file].”
Baldwin said he enjoys the features in LonghornMax which help him analyze his herd and determine how productive certain cattle have been in building his herd.
“I can click one button to see all of their offspring,” he said, “This lets me see how that cow has helped me and see how she has hurt me by the calves she’s given me.”
