Customer Profiles - Rockin F Ranch, Monya Meadows of Hillsboro, TX
Fairly new to the Texas Longhorn breed, Mike Fleming and Monya Meadows are building on their herd of 40 cattle on Rockin F Ranch in Hillsboro, TX.
“My grandfather, Gene Fleming, raised beef cattle and passed the ‘cattle bug’ on to my father, Mike Fleming, and me,” Meadows said, “Both my father and I have always admired Texas Longhorns and started our own Longhorn cattle herd a little more than a year ago.”
Meadows said their family lives on Rockin F, where they care for their Longhorn cattle and raise miniature dachshunds. Fleming also owns Fleming Lumber Company and Sancho’s (restaurant) in Hillsboro.
Rockin F saw many new additions this Spring with their calf crop, and found adjoining acreage helpful in rotating their cattle.
“We would recommend LonghornMax software to any Longhorn cattle owner,” Meadows said. “No matter if you have five Longhorns or 500, this software helps you keep all your records properly.”
She said the software helps her be certain she is taking the right information to her veterinarian, so they know which calves need shots or branding, and which heifers need OCV.
“We were keeping records just on paper for the first few months. Thankfully we found LonghornMax and have found it invaluable,” Meadows said.
She said they chose LonghornMax for their record keeping because it was the only program she found that was specifically for Texas Longhorns.
“We had done quite a bit of research and found LonghornMax to be the best program available,” she said.
Meadows suggested that other Longhorn breeders using the LonghornMax should enter their information immediately, to take advantage of the safety and security of the software and avoid losing paper notes.
She said she appreciates the ease of use built in to keeping medical records and watching horn growth on her cattle.
“There are so many great features of LonghornMax,” Meadows said. “The pedigrees are also great, and it auto-completes information you have put in previously so you do not have to re-enter.”
She said she uses the medical reports most often, but also appreciates the ability to create sales reports for her customers.
