Customer Success Story - Fairlea Longhorns
Michael Casey, a retired lawyer and current self-storage businessman, has his Longhorn cattle spread across the southwest. Casey, of Fairlea Longhorns, manages two Longhorn operations; one in Bowie, Texas, and another near San Francisco, California.
Casey began his Longhorn operation in California in 1995, and bought land in Texas for a second herd in 2005. His Texas ranch runs about 35 cows and 2 bulls and the California herd consists of 25 cows and 2 bulls.
Casey has used LonghornMax as his record keeping software for the past five years, after transferring from spreadsheet records.
"I use [LonghornMax] extensively to keep records," Casey said, "Spreadsheets work okay, but they don't capture the information needed as easily or efficiently. Because of LonghornMax, I have much better records. All my record keeping has been notched up."
Casey said he really likes the program, not only for record keeping, but as a sales and marketing tool.
He said, "We have benefited enormously by increasing efficiency and record keeping ability and our sales and marketing by being able to put photos in our records."
Casey suggested that other LonghornMax customers take full advantage of the program and use it to its maximum capabilities.
"Make sure that when you get registration certificates from the TLBAA, to enter all of the data in the pedigrees so animals have complete pedigrees," he said, "This is a distinct advantage to the market I'm trying to reach."
He said that when all of the functions and history are used in LonghornMax, the information is very valuable.
"The record keeping capacity is the most important," Casey said, "Every time I sell, I have a complete record."
Overall, LonghornMax has helped Fairlea Longhorns develop their program and manage records from both locations.
"I just think LonghornMax has stepped up my program and made it stronger and better," Casey said.
