Customer Profiles - End of Trail Ranch, Mike & Debbie Bowman of Latham, KS
At the “end of the trail” just south of Latham, Kansas, Mike Bowman runs about 350 breeding-age Texas Longhorns—a herd he has developed over the past 12 years.
End of Trail Ranch is also home to more than 300 commercial Angus cattle, keeping them plenty busy and deeply rooted in the cattle business.
Bowman was the second person to purchase LonghornMax at the 2001 Horn Showcase in Fort Worth, Texas, and still enters information daily.
Before LonghornMax, Bowman said his record keeping system was “kind of a joke.”
“I kept them like a lot of people do,” he said, “I would write everything down, have mountains of paperwork and didn’t know where I put it.”
Bowman said LonghornMax has been helpful in every part of his operation, and he utilizes every part of the software.
“I don’t know what I would do without it,” he said, “In an operation this big, there’s no way to remember everything, and it would take forever to write it all down and then categorize it.”
He said he used the printable worksheets a lot to collect data in the field and when working cattle, especially the horn measurement worksheet. He also creates cattle advertisements, complete with pedigrees, in the program. Bowman said he enjoys the ease LonghornMax creates in registering and transferring cattle through the TLBAA.
“I put information in [LonghornMax] every day. Whether I’m preg checking, AIing, recording new calves or exposure dates, I’m putting stuff in LonghornMax,” Bowman said.
He said End of Trail Ranch uses LonghornMax as their main tool to provide information on their cattle to others.
“Everyone who’s serious about the Longhorn business should have LonghornMax,” Bowman said, “It’s a great information tool to keep all records on your cattle.”
