Industry Profile - Robert Williams with the American International Charolais Association
Raised on a commercial cattle ranch in Freedom, OK, Robert Williams was similar to most other “farm kids.” Active in 4-H and FFA, participating in livestock judging and exhibition, and involved in athletics.
Following high school, Williams attended the Oklahoma State University, where he was a member of the 1981 National Champion Livestock Judging Team, earning the high point individual award in beef cattle.
Upon graduation, he was interested in working in the swine industry, but said his first call came from the Beefmaster Breeders Universal in San Antonio, TX, where he worked for five years as a field representative and organized their junior breeders program.
After spending a few years managing a Beefmaster ranch in Alabama, Williams returned to school at the University of Georgia, where he received both his Master’s and PhD in beef breeding and genetics.
In 1998, he joined the American International Charolais Association as Director of Breed Improvement Programs and Foreign Marketing.
“I enjoy the opportunity to have influence on producer’s selection programs, and being able to be a part of offering tools they can utilize to assist in breeding programs,” he said, “We ultimately hope we have an influence on the profitability of beef producers.”
The AICA serves as the registry for Charolais cattle in the U.S., and offers performance programs to increase genetic values.
Williams said, “We also organize promotional programs for the breed in general and other services that would enhance the value of Charolais genetics.”
How does Cattlesoft help the AICA achieve it’s producer goals?
“Integrity of records are important for what we do,” Williams said, “Anything that can help producers do a better job with record keeping is worthwhile.”
