Industry Profile - Carl Rugg with Bovine Elite
Carl Rugg was raised on a small farm in upstate New York, where he developed an interest in the agricultural industry.
After receiving an undergraduate degree in animal science/biological science from Cornell, a Master’s degree in reproductive physiology from Colorado State University, and working for several genetic service companies, he eventually found his way to College Station, Texas, where he opened Bovine Elite, LLC.
Rugg says that although he took a slight turn from becoming a veterinarian, he followed his goals of staying in agriculture. Today, he helps cattle producers improve their herds by providing superior genetics and other related services.
Bovine Elite currently has an extensive list of services including semen and embryo sales, AI and ET equipment sales, semen and embryo warehousing, professional exporting and AI consulting. In conjunction to their genetic services, they are also dealers for TruTest electronic weigh scales and HeatWatch systems.
Rugg says that the most rewarding part of his job is being able to own his own business and take care of his clients.
For cattle producers interested in learning how to AI and palpate their own cattle, Bovine Elite also offers AI and palpation clinics throughout the year. During these clinics, Rugg invites Cattlesoft, Inc. to host an informational session on their software solutions.
“[The software] helps customers operate more effectively through data organization and analysis,” he says.
